This will remove any dirt that can get lodged in the mat during the cleaning process. Use as powerful of a vacuum as you have available. These mats will take anything. Get a nice soft fiber brush and aggressively rub down the mat. This should remove any dirt or spill from the rubber finish. If you have sticky stuff on the mat, get some vegetable oil to start. This will take away most sticky things. If that doesn't work try Goo Gone. If you have paint or other more permanent discoloration you can always use terpentine to see if that will take it off.
